At the invitation of the Confucius Institute at L.N.Gumilyov Eurasian National University in the Republic of Kazakhstan, Guan Guihai, Executive Vice President of Institute of International & Strategic Studies (IISS), Peking University (PKU) and Director of Contemporary Russian Research Center, PKU, paid a visit to the university from April 27th to May 3rd, 2014. During this period of time, he also paid a visit to various functional departments of the government and research institutes, including Asia and Africa Department of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defense and Security of the Mazhilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Kazakhstan Institute for Strategic Studies under the President of Kazakhstan, Institute of World Economy and Politics of the Foundation of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and Institute for Philosophy, Political Science and Religion Studies of Committee Science of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan, etc. He had in-depth discussions with heads of these departments and institutions and their experts on issues, such as politics, economics and social development of countries in Central Asia, situation in Afghanistan, Sino-Kazakhstan relationship, Shanghai Cooperation Organization, Eurasian integration, and the proposition of “Silk Road Economic Belt”, etc.
