On July 4, 2024, the eighth China Visiting Delegation of the Public Intellectuals Program visited the Institute of International and Strategic Studies (IISS), Peking University (PKU). The delegation was composed of the following people: Jan Berris, Vice President of the National Committee on U.S.-China Relations (NCUSCR); Susan Thornton, Senior Fellow at the Paul Tsai China Center at Yale Law School; Ling Chen, Associate Professor at School of Advanced International Studies of Johns Hopkins University; Tarryn Chun, Assistant Professor in the Department of Film, Television, and Theatre at the University of Notre Dame; Jessica DiCarlo, Assistant Professor at the University of Utah; Li Ke, Associate Professor in the Department of Political Science at John Jay College of Criminal Justice of the City University of New York; Andy Liu, Associate Professor in the Department of History at Villanova University; Kristen Looney, Associate Professor of Asian Studies and Government at Georgetown University; Ilaria Mazzocco, Senior Fellow, Trustee Chair in Chinese Business and Economics at the Center for Strategic and International Studies; Tobias Smith, Assistant Professor in the Department of Justice Management at Ohlone College; Austin Strange, Assistant Professor in the Department of Politics and Public Administration at the University of Hong Kong; Jiakun Jack Zhang, Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science at the University of Kansas; Cindy Gao, Director of the Public Intellectuals Program at NCUSCR, and her assistant Zhang Qiaoqian; and Margaret Gach, program Assistant in the International Peace and Security program of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace.
The delegation engaged in communication with the following experts from Peking University on topics such as U.S.-China academic exchanges and research trends: Prof. Yuan Ming, Senior Advisor at the IISS and Honorary Dean of the Yenching Academy; Prof. Yu Tiejun, President of IISS; Prof. Yao Yang, Boya Distinguished Professor; Associate Professor Jie Dalei, Associate Professor Lei Shaohua and Assistant Professor Qi Haotian who are Senior Research Fellow at IISS; Distinguished Associate Professor Ma Xiao from the School of Government; Assistant Professor Xu Qinyi from the School of International Studies; and part-time Assistant Research Fellow Zhao Jianwei and Hu Ran from IISS, and Zeng Chuyuan, Ph.D. in Law from the School of International Studies. Research assistants Wang Runtan and Ma Li’ao from IISS also attended the meeting.
