At the invitation of the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), the Penn Project on the Future of U.S.-China Relations at the University of Pennsylvania, and the Asia Society Policy Institute, Wang Jisi, Founding President of the Institute of International and Strategic Studies (IISS), Peking University (PKU) and Professor at the School of International Studies (SIS), PKU, together with Zhao Jianwei, Postdoctoral Fellow at SIS, PKU, traveled to Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, and New York for research from March 27 to April 11, 2026. On March 31, Chinese Ambassador to the United States Xie Feng and other embassy officials met with and hosted a dinner for Wang Jisi and his delegation.
During the visit, Wang Jisi and Zhao Jianwei met with Terrence McCartin, Assistant U.S. Trade Representative for China and Mongolia Affairs at the Office of the United States Trade Representative, and Stephen Hadley, former U.S. National Security Advisor. They also exchanged views with dozens of experts, scholars, members of the media, business leaders, and former senior U.S. officials from institutions including the Brookings Institution, Johns Hopkins University, the Stimson Center, The Asia Group, The Marathon Initiative, the RAND Corporation, Eurasia Group, the German Marshall Fund of the United States, Georgetown University, the Council on Foreign Relations, the US-China Education Trust, the Financial Times, the Center for Strategic and International Studies, the University of Pennsylvania, the National Committee on United States-China Relations (NCUSCR), Macro Advisory Partners, ExxonMobil, and the Asia Society, on a wide range of topics including the international strategic situation, U.S. politics and diplomacy, and China-U.S. relations, holding six roundtable discussions in total. At each event, they set out China's positions and views. In his capacity as a member of the International Advisory Board of Chubb, a U.S. company, Wang Jisi attended Chubb's annual meeting on April 8-9 and met with Evan Greenberg, Chairman and CEO of Chubb and Executive Vice Chair of the Board of Directors of NCUSCR.
