On March 1, 2024, a delegation led by Ms. Miranda Claremont, Minister Counselor for Political Affairs at the British Embassy in China, accompanied by Mr. Thomas Burn, Counselor for Political Affairs, Ms. Rebecca Gray, Second Secretary for Political Affairs, and Jiang Yang, Secretary for Chinese Affairs, visited the Institute of International Strategic Studies (IISS), Peking University (PKU). They had an in-depth discussion and exchange with Prof. Yu Tiejun, President of IISS, PKU and Professor at the School of International Studies (SIS), PKU, Mr. Jie Dalei, Senior Researcher at IISS and Associate Professor at SIS, PKU and Mr. Qi Haotian, Senior Researcher at IISS and Assistant Professor at SIS, PKU. Ma Li'ao, a research assistant at IISS, PKU, attended the meeting.
Ms. Claremont pointed out that the economic and trade relations, and cultural exchanges between the UK and China are becoming increasingly close. Both sides should deepen dialogue on strategic stability to jointly address global crises. President Yu Tiejun expressed that China's diplomacy is committed to creating a peaceful and stable international environment to promote Chinese modernization. China and the UK have a long history of exchanges and share many mutual interests and concerns. Efforts should be made to ensure the stability and longevity of bilateral relations. Subsequently, both parties exchanged views on topics such as China-UK relations and China-U.S. relations and they expressed a mutual anticipation of strengthening academic exchanges and cooperation going forward.
