From October 1 to 15, 2023, Prof. Wang Jisi, Founding President of the Institute of International and Strategic Studies (IISS), and Professor at the School of International Studies (SIS), Peking University (PKU), visited Washington D.C., the capital of the United States and New York City upon the invitation of the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) and the Asia Society Policy Institute.
From October 3 to 5, Prof. Wang participated in the meeting of the second phase of the program titled "Rebuilding U.S.-China Scholarly Exchange: A Two-Way International Conference", co-hosted by the Institute of International and Strategic Studies (IISS), Peking University (PKU), and the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS). This meeting was supported and facilitated by Xie Feng, the Chinese Ambassador to the United States, Minister Xu Xueyuan, and other officials of the Chinese embassy in the United States.
In Washington, Prof. Wang Jisi met with officials including Daniel Kritenbrink, the Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs; Sarah Beran, the Senior Director for China and Mongolia Affairs at the National Security Council; and Rush Doshi, the Director for China Affairs at the National Security Council. Further foreign dignitaries whom Prof. Wang met included Craig Allen, President of the U.S.-China Business Council; Thomas Friedman, New York Times columnist; Stephen Hadley, former National Security Assistant to the U.S. President; Ryan Hass, Director of the China Center at the Brookings Institution; and Kevin Rudd, the Australian Ambassador to the United States and former Prime Minister of Australia.
In New York, Prof. Wang Jisi met with Henry Kissinger, former U.S. Secretary of State, Daniel Russel, Deputy President of the Asia Society Policy Institute, and Daniel Kurtz-Phelan, Chief Editor of the Foreign Affairs magazine, among others. As a member of the International Advisory Council of the Chubb Group, Prof. Wang participated in the group's annual meeting from October 11 to 12, where he met with Evan Greenberg, President of the group. He also gave a lecture at the Asia Society Policy Institute on the topic of Sino-U.S. relations.
Prof. Wang had profound exchanges of views with Americans on topics such as the international situation, Sino-U.S. relations, and U.S. domestic politics, yielding fruitful results. Prof. Wang expressed his gratitude for the support and guidance of PKU’s Office of International Relations, and School of International Studies (SIS), and relevant leaders. This visit was supported by several Chinese entrepreneurs, to whom Prof. Wang also extends his deep appreciation.
Hu Ran, a doctoral student from SIS, PKU, participated in Prof. Wang’s activities in the United States.
