From Sept 8 to 9, 2014, as initiated and directed by Prof. Wu Jianmin, Executive Vice-president of China Institute for Innovation and Development Strategy, former Chinese ambassador to France, former President of the Foreign Affairs College, the Institute of International & Strategic Studies (IISS), Peking University (PUK) organized domestic scholars and experts to pay a visit to Washington, the capital of the United States, for a dialogue among China, America and Japan sponsored by the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS). Scholars from China include Prof. Wu Jianmin and Prof. Wang Jisi, President of IISS, PUK; Prof. Zha Daojiong and Dr. Gui Yongtao of the School of International Studies (SIS), PKU; Prof. Jin Canrong and Prof. Shi Yinhong of School of International Studies (SIS), Renmin University of China (RUC), etc. The U.S. scholars were from Think Tanks, such as CSIS and Brookings Institution, etc. Japanese Participants are from Japan Economic Foundation and University of Tokyo and other institutions. Similar dialogues were held in 2005 and 2008 in China, America and Japan, respectively.
The dialogue mainly focused on three issues: Chinese, the U.S and Japanese Asian strategies and domestic factors; economic cooperation and future trend. Those scholars elaborated their views on the situation of Asian-Pacific region. They shared their opinions on Sino-U.S. and Sino-Japan cooperation and risks of conflict. They expressed their views on the disparities in management and control and the improvement of relations. According to the participants, the trilateral cooperation among China, America and Japan is of great significance to the regional peace, stability and development, so the trilateral dialogue among Think Tank and experts has positive influence.
During their visit to the U.S., Prof. Wu Jianmin and Prof. Wang Jisi and other scholars also met with The U.S. government officials, former politicians and think tank experts. They exchanged views on the current international situation and Sino-U.S. relations.
