A Delegation from British Royal College of Defence Studies Visits IISS

On the morning of May 8th, 2018, a 19-member delegation of British Royal College of Defence Studies, led by Sir Tom Phillips KCMG, visited the Institute of International and Strategic Studies (IISS), Peking University (PKU). The two sides discussed hot issues in the field of security in the Asia-Pacific region. The seminar was held at the North Pavilion, hosted by Yu Tiejun, Associate Professor and Vice President of IISS and attended by Associate Prof. Gui Yongtao, Assistant President of IISS, Jie Dalei, Associate Professor of School of International Studies, PKU, and Li Chen, Lecturer at School of International Studies, Renmin University of China. 

In the first part of the meeting, the Chinese representatives expounded China’s position on regional security issues, including North Korean nuclear issue, Sino-Japan relations, South China Sea disputes, and Taiwan issue, etc. They also briefly analyzed and interpreted the significant factors influencing the current situation and future trends. Subsequently members of the visiting delegation asked the Chinese academics questions based on their introduction. The two sides conducted a frank and efficient discussion.
