Executive Vice President Guan Guihai Leads a Delegation to Visit Three Central Asian Countries

From April 22 to May 1, 2019, Guan Guihai, Executive Vice President of the Institute of International and Strategic Studies (IISS), Peking University (PKU), led a delegation of Chinese scholars to conduct a ten-day visit and academic exchange in the Republic of Tajikistan, Kyrgyz Republic, and the Republic of Uzbekistan. Members of the delegation were: Lei Shaohua, Deputy Director of the Department of International Public Policy at the School of International Studies (SIS), PKU, Mei Fan, Third Secretary of the Policy Planning Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Jing Zongjie, Research Assistant of the IISS.

The delegation visited the Ministries of foreign affairs, diplomatic institutions such as the Center for Strategic Studies under President of Tajikistan, and government think tanks, and exchanged opinions on issues of common concern such as the development trend of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, the construction of the "Belt and Road", and the influence of relations between major powers on Central Asia. The delegation also visited some mainstream media, research and education institutions of the three countries, such as the news agency Avesta of Tajikistan, Tajik National University, Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic, University of World Economy and Diplomacy of Uzbekistan, and Tashkent State University of Law. The two sides discussed issues such as further cooperation in the fields of humanities and education.

In addition, the delegation paid visits to Chinese embassies and local Chinese-funded institutions and enterprises in the three countries and had exchanges with them. Associate Prof. Guan Guihai gave a lecture entitled "The impact of Sino-U.S.-Russia triangle relations on Central Asia" at the book club for young diplomats hosted by the Chinese Embassy in Tajikistan.
