On November 9-10, 2020, Yu Tiejun, Vice President of the Institute of International and Strategic Studies (IISS), Peking University (PKU), attended the Ninth Annual Conference of Council of Councils (CoC) hosted online by the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR).

Nearly 60 experts and scholars from various countries attended the virtual conference. The conference focused on four topics: the U.S. presidential election, great power relations and the future of global and regional order, reforming global health governance, and the future of climate change beyond the Paris Agreement.

The CoC is a network of global think tanks initiated and established by the CFR. It is designed to connect leading foreign policy institutes from around the world in a dialogue on issues of global governance and multilateral cooperation and to bringing together intellectual power to address common threats and sponsor innovative ideas, providing recommendations and solutions to public policy debates and decision-making processes in member countries. The CoC is composed of twenty-eight leading think tanks from twenty-four countries, roughly tracking the composition of the Group of Twenty (G20).

On November 11, Vice President Yu Tiejun’s article entitled “Keeping U.S.-China Strategic Competition Under Control” was published on the website of the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) for its “Biden and the World” column. The article analyzes the possible impact of the Biden administration on U.S.-China relations, and suggests that the U.S. and China should take a prudent attitude in the future and cooperate in areas of common interest so as to keep the U.S.-China strategic competition in a stable and controllable state.
