On December 27, 2024, the Institute of International and Strategic Studies (IISS), Peking University (PKU) held a seminar entitled “Global Security Landscape During Trump’s Second Term” and the 22nd North Pavilion Salon at the North Pavilion of PKU.

The event invited experts and scholars from prestigious institutions, such as the China Institute of International Studies, the China Institutes of Contemporary International Relations, Peking University, Tsinghua University, and the China Foreign Affairs University to engage in in-depth discussions. Prof. Yu Tiejun, President of IISS, PKU, attended the meeting and delivered remarks. The seminar was moderated by Jia Zifang, lecturer at the Institute of International Relations, China Foreign Affairs University.

The “North Pavilion Salon” aims to promote in-depth dialogue between theoretical and policy research, providing a platform for the exchange of ideas among young and middle-aged scholars. This session focused on the global security outlook during Trump’s second term, with particular attention paid to the potential U.S. foreign and military policies. Discussions addressed regional dynamics in the Middle East, Europe, and the Indo-Pacific, as well as key and emerging issues in the field of international security. Experts noted that during Trump’s second term, the U.S. is likely to continue intensifying strategic competition with China, which would add further uncertainty to the global security landscape and pose greater challenges for China. They emphasized that both countries should strengthen communication and pragmatic cooperation in the security domain to help stabilize bilateral relations and contribute to improving global security.
