A Delegation from the Institute of Foreign Affairs and National Security, Korea National Diplomatic Academy, Visits IISS, PKU

On the afternoon of May 20, 2026, Choi Hyungchan, President of the Korea National Diplomatic Academy (KNDA), led a delegation from the Institute of Foreign Affairs and National Security (IFANS), KNDA, on a visit to the Institute of International and Strategic Studies (IISS), Peking University (PKU). The delegation included the following members: Jeon Bonggeun, Senior Advisor at IFANS, KNDA; In Namsik, Director of the Department of Strategic Regional Studies, IFANS, KNDA; Kim Hankwon, Director of the China Research Center, IFANS, KNDA; Choi Jinbaek, Research Professor at the China Research Center, IFANS, KNDA; Oh Seunghee, Assistant Professor at the Indo-Pacific Studies Department, IFANS, KNDA; Kim Jaecheol, Professor at the Department of International Studies, Catholic University of Korea; several assistant research fellows from IFANS; and accompanying staff from the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in China. From the Chinese side, the meeting was attended by Professor Yu Tiejun, President of IISS, PKU, PKU; Professor Wang Yong and Professor Zha Daojiong at the School of International Studies (SIS), PKU; Li Chen, Senior Research Fellow at IISS, PKU and Associate Professor at the School of International Studies, Renmin University of China; Song Wenzhi, Associate Professor at the School of Foreign Languages, PKU; Liu Lu, Assistant Professor at SIS, PKU; Zhao Jianwei, Postdoctoral Research Fellow at SIS, PKU; Kim Soorim, PhD Candidate at SIS, PKU; Li Min, Associate Research Fellow at the Institute for Asia-Pacific Studies, China Institute of International Studies (CIIS); and Tang Xiao, Assistant Research Fellow at the Institute for Asia-Pacific Studies, CIIS. The two sides held an in-depth exchange on a range of issues, including China-U.S. relations, China-ROK relations, the Korean Peninsula issue, and the regional and international situation.

President Yu Tiejun welcomed the visiting delegation from IFANS, KNDA, noting that the visit coincided with the China-U.S. and China-Russia summit meetings and that the exchange would help enhance mutual understanding and allow the two sides to share their views on relevant issues. In his remarks, President Choi Hyungchan said this was his first visit to IISS, PKU, and hoped to further deepen mutual understanding and learn, through dialogue, how Chinese experts view the issues at hand. In light of the latest developments in the world , the participating scholars discussed China-U.S. relations, China-ROK relations, the Korean Peninsula issue, and regional and international hotspot issues. Both sides agreed that the exchange advanced their mutual understanding of the issues discussed and helped sharpen their respective thinking and insights on these questions. At the end of the meeting, the two sides expressed the hope of continuing to promote cooperation and exchanges between KNDA and IISS, PKU, and of further strengthening their collaboration and ties.
