On the morning of May 13, 2026, Ole Wæver, Professor of International Relations at the Department of Political Science, University of Copenhagen, founder of the Centre for Advanced Security Theory (CAST), and Director of the Centre for Resolution of International Conflicts (CRIC), visited the Institute of International and Strategic Studies (IISS), Peking University (PKU) for a seminar with Beijing-based scholars on the development of international relations theory.

Other participants in the seminar included Liu Feng, Professor at the School of Social Sciences, Tsinghua University; Lü Xiaoyu, Assistant Professor at the School of International Studies (SIS), PKU; Ren Xiao, Professor at the School of International and Area Studies, Beijing Foreign Studies University; Wang Ziyuan, Associate Professor at the Institute of International Relations, China Foreign Affairs University; Yu Tiejun, President of IISS, PKU and Professor at SIS, PKU; Zhao Jianwei, Postdoctoral Research Fellow and Assistant Research Fellow at SIS, PKU; Zuo Xiying, Professor at the School of International Studies, Renmin University of China; and Charlotte Epstein, Invited Professor at Tokyo College, the University of Tokyo Institutes for Advanced Study, among others.

Amid the growing globalization of international relations as a discipline, the participants engaged in in-depth discussions on its sociological and historical dimensions, as well as on theoretical development, the evolution of schools of thought, and shifts in research orientation. The seminar was moderated by Professor Yu Tiejun.
