On December 14, 2016, the 2016 Council Meeting & Seminar on International Situations was held by IISS, PKU. Dai Bingguo, former PRC State Councilor and Honorary President of IISS attended the meeting, expressed his opinions on international situations and instructed the work of IISS for the next step. Members of board of IISS council attending the meetings were Chen Xiaogong, former Deputy Director of the Central Foreign Affairs Office, Cui Liru, Senior Consultant of China Institutes of Contemporary International Relations, Fu Yucheng, former Chairman of the Board of Sinopec Group, Qiu Yuanping, Director of Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of The State Council, Wang Yizhou, Vice President of SIS, PKU, Xiao Tianliang, Vice President of National Defense University of People's Liberation Army(NDUPLA), Yan Xuetong, President of Institute of International Relations of Tsingshua University, Yang Jiemian, Director of the Academic Committee of Shanghai Institutes for International Studies, Yang Yi, Professor of Institutes for Strategic Studies NDUPLA, Yue Xiaoyong, Chinese ambassador to Ireland, Zhang Tuosheng, Director of the Academic Committee of China International Strategic Studies Foundation, Zhou Mingwei, Chief of China International Publishing Group and Zhu Weilie, Honorary President of Middle East Studies Institute, Shanghai International Studies University. Guests attending the meetings also were: Li Fenglin, former Chinese Ambassador to Russia, Yu Hongjun, Vice Chairman of Chinese People’s Association for Peace and Disarmament, Li Zhigang, Counselor of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Wang Shu, Chief of General Office of Department of Asian Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Li Hanmei, Secretary of Party Committee of SIS, PKU, etc.

At the Council‘s Working Meeting chaired by Gui Yongtao, Assistant to President of IISS, PKU, President Wang Jisi made report on the work of 2016 and the work design for 2017. All councilors and guests gave full recognition to the work accomplished by IISS over the past year and offered suggestions on issues such as research orientation, exchanges and cooperation, funding support, etc.

Presided by President Wang Jisi, the session on international conditions heard opinions given by Zhu Wenli, Special Research Fellow of IISS, Guan Guihai, Executive Vice President of IISS, Gui Yongtao, Assistant to President of IISS and Qian Xuemei, Special Research Fellow on issues including “American Presidential Election and the UK’s Extrication from the EU”, “Russia and Europe”, “Surrounding Situations” etc.; they also exchanged views with participants at the meeting.
