Scholar Delegation of ASEAN Think Tank pays a visit to IISS, PKU

On June 15th, 2016, the Institute of International and Strategic Studies (IISS), Peking University (PKU) welcomed 14 visitors from important think tanks of the following countries: Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand. Zhai Kun, Senior Research Fellow of IISS, and Professor from the School of International Relations (SIR), PKU, and Rozan Yunos, Executive Director of the Centre for Strategic and Policy Studies (CSPS), co-chaired the discussion. Chinese delegates include Luan Jianzhang, Deputy Director of the Research Office of International Department, Central Committee of CPC, Liu Lin, Research Associate of the Maritime Security Research Center, Academy of Military Science of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army, Research Associate Luo Yongkun and Research Assistant Han Liqun of China Institutes of Contemporary International Relations, Gong Ting, Research Assistant of  China Institute of International Studies, and Dr. Li Zhonglin and Dr. Liu Jingye of SIS, PKU.  

Featured by alternative Q&A from Chinese and foreign sides, the discussion consists of two sections, focusing on two themes, respectively, namely “the Peaceful Development Strategy & Foreign Policy with Neighboring Countries of China” and “China – ASEAN Bilateral Relations & the 21stCentury Maritime Silk Road”. To be specific, both parties communicated thoroughly and frankly on topics, such as bilateral or multilateral negotiation for the South China Sea Issue, joint business development of the South China Sea, the proposed Air Defense Identification Zone of the South China Sea and One Belt and One Road Initiative and China – ASEAN economic cooperation.
