On Dec. 2, 2020, the 2020 Council Meeting & Symposium on International Situation was held in the Institute of International and Strategic Studies (IISS), Peking University (PKU). Dai Bingguo, Former State Councilor, PRC, and Honorary President, IISS, PKU attended the meeting, expressed his views on the international situation, commented positively about IISS work in 2020 and gave important instructions for the next work of IISS.
The following IISS council members participated in the meeting: Lieutenant General Chen Xiaogong, former deputy dean of the Office for Foreign Affairs of CPC Central Committee, former deputy commander of PLA Air Force; He Di, Former chairman of UBS; Jia Qingguo, President of the School of International Studies (SIS), PKU; Qiu Yuanping, Member of the Standing Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, PRC, Deputy Director of Committee for Liaison with Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and Overseas Chinese, PRC; Tang Shiqi, President and Deputy Secretary of the School of International Studies (SIS), PKU; Wang Wan, Research Fellow of the Institute of Modern History, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences; Prof. Wang Yizhou of SIS, PKU; Prof. Yang Yi, PLA National Defence University, Rear Admiral; Zhang Tuosheng, Director of Academic Committee of China Foundation for International and Strategic Studies; Zhou Mingwei, Former Director of the China Foreign Languages Publishing Administration, Director of the Translators Association of China; Zhu Feng, President of the Institute of International Relations and Executive Director of the Collaborative Innovation Center of South China Sea Studies, Nanjing University. Among guests were Chu Xiaobo, Secretary of the Party Committee of the SIS, PKU; Wang Dong, Vice Minister of the School of Social Sciences, PKU; Xu Bu, President of China Institute of International Studies (CIIS); Zhang Haibin, Vice President of SIS, PKU; Zheng Liqiao, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Policy Planning of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, PRC.
The council’s working meeting was hosted by Guan Guihai, Executive Vice President, IISS. Wang Jisi, President of IISS, reported on IISS’s work in 2020 and work plan for 2021. Members of IISS Council and guests commented highly about IISS’s work by overcoming many difficulties in the past year and gave suggestions on its research direction and development strategies for the next year based on the current international situation.
Wang Jisi, President of IISS, presided over the Symposium on International Situation. Executive Vice President Guan Guihai, Vice President Gui Yongtao and Vice President Yu Tiejun, Special Research Fellow Zhai Kun, Zhu Wenli, Wu Bingbing, Qian Xuemei, Lei Shaohua, Zhao Minghao respectively expressed opinions on issues such as “Russia and Europe” “situation in neighboring countries of China” “the U.S.”, and “the Middle East and South Asia”, and had active discussions with the participants of the Symposium.
