On Dec. 4, 2019, the 2019 Council Meeting & Seminar on International Situation was held in the Institute of International and Strategic Studies (IISS), Peking University (PKU). At the meeting, Dai Bingguo, Former State Councilor, PRC, and Honorary President, IISS, PKU expressed his views on the international situation, commented positively about IISS work in 2019 and gave instructions for IISS on its future work.

The following IISS council members participated in the meeting: He Di, Former chairman of UBS, Tang Shiqi, Dean of the School of International Studies (SIS), PKU, Prof. Jia Qingguo of the School of International Studies, PKU, Prof. Wang Yizhou of the SIS, PKU, Wang Wan, Research Fellow of the Institute of Modern History, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Yue Xiaoyong, Former Ambassador of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China, Zhang Tuosheng, Director of Academic Committee of China Foundation for International and Strategic Studies , Zhou Mingwei, Former Commissioner of China Foreign Languages Publication and Distribution Administration and Zhu Weilie, Honorary Director of the Middle East Studies Institute of Shanghai International Studies University. Among guests were Liu Jinsong, the secretary of Policy Planning Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China, Zhang Yiqi, Counsellor of the Policy Planning Department and Hu Yixiong, Secretary of the Party Committee of School of International Studies, PKU.

Guan Guihai, Executive Vice President of the IISS, presided over the Council’s working meeting and Wang Jisi, President of the IISS, reported on IISS’s work in 2019 and envisaged IISS’s work for 2020. Members of IISS Council and guests commented positively about IISS’s work in 2019 and gave suggestions on its research direction for the next year based on the current international situation.

Wang Jisi, President of IISS, presided over the Seminar on International Situation. The following scholars expressed their views on topics such as "Russia and Europe", "the United States", "China's Peripheral Environment" and "the Middle East, South Asia" and discussed these issues with other participants: Guan Guihai, Executive Vice President of IISS and Associate Professor, SIS, PKU, Zhu Wenli, Professor of SIS, PKU and Senior Research Fellow of IISS, PKU, Gui Yongtao, Vice President of IISS and SIS and Associate Professor of SIS, Yu Tiejun, Vice President of IISS and Associate Professor of SIS, Zhai Kun, Senior Research Fellow of IISS and Professor of SIS, Wu Bingbing, Associate Professor of the School of Foreign Languages and Senior Research Fellow of IISS, PKU and Qian Xuemei, Senior Research Fellow of IISS and Associate Professor of SIS, PKU.
