On Jan. 10, 2019, the academic symposium on “The Causes and Consequences of the United States’ Withdrawal of from the INF Treaty” was held in North Pavilion, Peking University. It was sponsored by the Institute of International and Strategic Studies (IISS), Peking University (PKU) and chaired by Guan Guihai, Executive Vice President of IISS, PKU. Guests included Prof. Li Bing from the Department of International Relations, Tsinghua University, Guo Xiaobing, Vice Chairman of the Institute of Arms Control and Security Studies of China Institutes of Contemporary International Relations, Shi Shaozhu, Nuclear Researcher, Wu Jianming, Researcher of China Aerospace Science and Industry Corporation, Li Chen, lecturer of the School of International Studies (SIS), Renmin University of China, Gui Yongtao, Vice President of SIS, PKU and Vice President of IISS, Qi Haotian, Assistant Professor of SIS, PKU and some Senior Research Fellows of IISS,PKU including Zhu Wenli, Qian Xuemei, Wu Bingbing and Lei Shaohua.
Scholars at the symposium shared their views on issues such as the background and causes of the decision of the United States to withdraw from the INF treaty (Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty), the possible response of other countries and the possible impact on China's strategic security environment and its countermeasures.
