On December 14th, 2018, the Institute of International and Strategic Studies (IISS), Peking University (PKU) held the council meeting for the year 2018 and symposium on international situation. Dai Bingguo, Former State Councilor, PRC and Honorary President of the IISS, PKU, attended the meeting and expressed his views on the international situation. He also spoke highly of the work done by the IISS in 2018, and gave instructions on the next steps of the IISS. Qiu Shuiping, Party Committee Secretary of PKU, listened to the report on the work of the IISS, cordially talked with Honorary President Dai Bingguo and the participating directors, had a group photo taken to mark the occasion. In the evening of that day, Hao Ping, President of PKU, had dinner with Honorary President Dai Bingguo and the participating directors.

The directors of the IISS attending the meeting were: Fu Chengyu, Former Chairman of China Petrochemical Corporation, He Di, Vice Chairman of the Investment Banking, UBS Group, Qin Yaqing, President of China Foreign Affairs University, Qiu Yuanping, Former Director of the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council, PRC, Tang Shiqi, President of the School of International Studies (SIS), PKU, Wang Wan, Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Japan, Wang Yizhou, Professor of the SIS, PKU, Zhou Mingwei, Former Director of the China Foreign Languages Publishing Administration, Zhu Feng, President of the Institute of International Relations and Executive Director of the Collaborative Innovation Center of South China Sea Studies, Nanjing University, and Zhu Weilie, Honorary President of the Middle East Studies Institute, Shanghai International Studies University. The guests attending the meeting were Jiang Xuebin, Counselor of the Department of Policy Planning of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, PRC, and Hu Yixiong, Party Committee Secretary of the SIS, PKU.

The council's working meeting was hosted by Yuan Ming, Vice President of the IISS. President Wang Jisi read out the resolution of the members of the council on the changes of the staff of the IISS, and reported on the work done by the institute in 2018 and the work plan for 2019. The directors and guests spoke highly of the work done by the institute in 2018 and based on the international situation, they gave suggestions on research directions and financial support of the institute in the next year.

The symposium on international situation was hosted by President Wang Jisi. Guan Guihai, Executive Vice President of the IISS, Gui Yongtao, Vice President of the SIS and Vice President of the IISS, and special research fellows of the IISS, including Zhu Wenli, Zhai Kun, Wu Bingbing, Qian Xuemei, and Lei Shaohua, expressed opinions on issues such as "Russia and Europe", "the U.S.", "situation in neighboring countries of China", and "the Middle East, South Asia, and anti-terrorism" and had active discussions with the participants of the symposium.
