On April 24, 2026, the Institute of International and Strategic Studies (IISS), Peking University (PKU) held a seminar at the North Pavilion on "The Impact of the Current U.S.-Israel-Iran Conflict on the Middle East, the World, and China" and the 31st North Pavilion Salon.

The seminar brought together experts and scholars from the China Institutes of Contemporary International Relations (CICIR), the China Institute of International Studies (CIIS), PKU, Tsinghua University, Beijing Language and Culture University, and China International United Petroleum & Chemicals Co., Ltd. (UNIPEC) for in-depth discussions. Wu Bingbing, Senior Research Fellow at IISS, PKU, attended the seminar and delivered remarks. The meeting was chaired by Yao Jinxiang, Assistant Research Fellow at the Institute of Developing Countries, CIIS.

The North Pavilion Salon aims to promote in-depth dialogue between theoretical and policy research and provide a platform for exchange among young and mid-career scholars. Focusing on the current U.S.-Israel-Iran conflict, the participating experts discussed its impact on global energy markets, security in the Middle East, economic diversification in the Gulf region, European security, and the United States' system of Middle East alliances. They observed that the legitimacy of U.S. military action in this round of conflict is facing a crisis, while Iran's will to resist and its actual response capabilities have exceeded general expectations. The experts agreed that the current conflict has significantly impacted both global energy markets and the global economy, while also profoundly reshaping the security landscape and the economic development dynamics of the Middle East.
