Vice President Gui Yongtao Attends the 20th Beijing-Tokyo Forum

On December 5, 2024, Associate Prof. Gui Yongtao, Vice President of the Institute of International and Strategic Studies (IISS), Peking University (PKU), attended the 20th Beijing-Tokyo Forum upon invitation. Held in Tokyo from December 4 to 5, 2024, the forum was titled “China and Japan Working Together to Reshape the International Peace Order within a Multilateral Framework.” Over 400 distinguished guests from various sectors of both countries gathered to discuss topics including promoting multilateral cooperation, safeguarding peace and stability, enhancing political trust, deepening economic and trade collaboration, and strengthening cultural exchanges. On the morning of December 5, the sub-forum on security was staged in Minato, Tokyo, under the title “Building Mutual Trust and Cooperation to Maintain Peace and Stability in Northeast Asia.” In this session, Prof. Gui shared his views on maintaining peace and stability in Northeast Asia from both conceptual and practical perspectives and proposed that China and Japan should seek consensus through dialogue and consultation. Other participants included Zhang Tuosheng, Chief Research Fellow at Grandview Institution, and Katsutoshi Kawano, former Chief of Japan's Self-Defense Forces' Joint Staff, among other Chinese and Japanese experts and scholars.
