On May 28, 2014, Lin Tong, Shaanxi province witnessed the inauguration ceremony of Xi’an branch institute of Guanghua School of Management (GSM), Peking University (PKU). Han Qide, Vice President of Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) attended the ceremony and addressed the meeting. Xi’an branch institute’s plate was unveiled by Lou Qinjian, Governor of Shaanxi province, Wang Enge, President of PKU, Wei Minzhou, Member of Standing Committee of Shaanxi Province Party Committee and Party Secretary of Xi’an Municipality and Cai Hongbin, Dean of GSM, PKU. Nearly 400 academic masters, commercial and political leaders attended the ceremony in Lin Tong, including Mr. Li Yining, the famous Economist as well as the Honorary Dean of GSM, and GSM college leaders, Prof. Yuan Ming of the Institute of International and Strategic Studies (IISS), PKU, the leaders of Shaanxi province and alumni of GSM, PKU.  

The event started with the Silk Road Development Roundtable Forum. The summit dialogue beheld the participation of Cai Hongbin and Liu Xue, Dean and Associate Dean of GSM, Fang Weifeng, Director of Shaanxi Development and Reform Commission, Xue Jimin, Chairman of Shaanxi International Trust Co., LTD. and an alumnus of GSM, Wei Cuncheng, Shaanxi Shiyang (Group) Co., LTD and Zhu Lei. Mao Dawei, Vice President of MBA Alumni Association of PKU, as well as the Party Secretary of GSM host the forum. His statement started from the current key word of “Silk Road Economic Belt” in west part of China, Mr. Mao expounded the background and strategic importance of the roundtable in the very beginning, namely, how to promote economy in the west of China and vitalize the regional economic construction under the national strategic guidance.

Following the roundtable was the plate - unveiling ceremony of Xi’an branch institute of GSM, PKU. Mr. Dong Jun, Deputy Secretary of Xi’an Municipal Party Committee as well as the Mayor of Xi’an served as the host. He emphasized that the school’s completion indicated an implementation of the national significant decision on speeding up strategic deployment in Silk Road Economic Belt and sublimation of the concrete practice on the cooperation between PKU and Xi’an city.

The last segment was the keynote speech. Prof. Yuan Ming of IISS, PKU, an expert on international issues, delivered an address themed “Cultural Self-Consciousness in Global Economization”. As Prof. Yuan Ming pointed out, cultures of giant nations including China have stood up to the test of global economization. In this process, they have unfolded their moral restructuring from various angles, aiming to build the new spiritual standard. In her speech, She repeatedly affirmed the morality power, advocated by Mr. Li Yining, and was firmly confident that our Chinese traditions would shine new life and vigor by undergoing the baptism of modernization and internationalization challenge.

It gathered numerous academic masters, economic and political leaders into this grand event host in ancient Shaanxi province, which is also a place brimming with modern vitality, and Xi’an branch institute of GSM, PKU, which is a young school inheriting the spirit of 100-year PKU. They reminisced about the glorious Silk Road in the past and imagined its return to rising.
