On March 30, 2022, Guan Guihai, Executive Vice President of the Institute of International and Strategic Studies (IISS), Peking University (PKU), attended the 5th Council of Councils (COC) Online Meeting hosted by the U.S. Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) on behalf of IISS. Qi Haotian, Assistant Prof. of the School of International Studies (SIS), PKU and Li Chen, Associate Prof. of the School of International Studies (SIS), Renmin University of China also participated in the meeting.
Altogether 28 think tanks from 24 countries joined the meeting, including two think tanks from China: IISS of PKU and Shanghai Institutes for International Studies. Two major topics were discussed at this meeting, i.e., the Ukraine crisis and preparations against the next pandemic.
COC is a global think tank network initiated and established by the U.S. CFR, which aims to connect major foreign policies research institutes across the world, conduct open dialogues on global governance and multilateral cooperation, it gathers wisdom from all parties to deal with common threats, sponsors innovative ideas and provides advice and solutions for public policy debate and decision-making processes in its member states. At present, COC comprises famous think tanks from 24 countries, and its membership is roughly similar to that of the G20. The list of member institutes can be accessed at the roster page of COC.
