On December 18, 2013, Mr. Zheng Zeguang, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs, visited the Institute for International and Strategic Studies at Peking University, and held a talk with the leaders of SIS and IISS, discussing the current international situation and major missions for Chinese diplomacy. Assistant Minister Zheng pointed out that from 2010 to 2012, IISS, formally know as CISS, carried out a number of research projects authorized by the Ministry, as one of the four “Important Institutions for Policy Research Projects and Cooperation, for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs,” and received praise from important officials within the Ministry.
Acting on behalf of the ministry, Assistant Minister Zheng awared a certificate reaffirming IISS to be an “Important Institution for Policy Research Projects and Cooperation for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs” for the period of 2013 to 2015.
Officials from the Policy Planning Department, Deputy Director-General Wang Wenbin, Section Chief Zeng Zenghua, Deputy Section Chief Baijie, and Second Secretary Wang Chuanyang, also visited the institute. Dean of IISS Wang Jisi, Associate Dean of SIS Jia Qingguo, Associate Dean of IISS Zhufeng, Executive Associate Dean Guan Guihai, and Assistant Deans Yu Tiejun and Gui Yongtao attended the meeting. Both parties exchange ideas for future cooperation, direction of research, and planning for recent activities. Dean Wang Jisi stated that IISS cherishes the honor and trust given by the Ministry, and committed himself to guiding IISS to become a top think tank for strategic studies in future.
