The Center for International and Strategic Studies at Peking University was pleased to have hosted a visit by the Energy Study Program of the United Stated National Defense University in Room C105 of the SIS building on May 7, 2012.
The visiting group, led by Professor Paul Sullivan, was made up of 18 members, including three faculty members and fifteen students of the ranks of Colonel, Lt. Colonel and equivalents in the civilian services. The students are from NDU’s Industrial College of the Armed Forces, pursuing a Master’s Degree in National Resources Security Strategy Program.
Associate Dean Fan Shiming opened the two-hour session by offering words of welcome to the visitors on behalf of the School of International Studies at Peking University. Professor Zha Daojiong, a member of the Academic Committee of CISS, led the discussion. Associate Professor Chen Shaofeng of our School also participated in the discussion.
The topics for discussion included the energy issues that China is facing and Chinese approaches to the energy issues and the related environmental and human development challenges. The discussion also touched upon exploring ways and means for enhancing mutual understandings between China and the United States over their respective energy security policies and promoting further bilateral and multilateral cooperation and collaboration in energy development.
