October, 15 – 17, 2007, Jack Snyder, Robert and Renée Belfer Professor of International Relations in Department of Political Science of Columbia University, visited the Center for International and Strategic Studies, Peking University upon invitation and took part in academic exchange with CISS members. Prof. Snyder also conducted a series of academic lectures for students and teachers of Peking University’s School of International Studies. Topics of the lectures included “Myths of Empire”, “Contemporary American International Relations Theory” and “Democratization, Nationalism, and War”.
Prof. Jack Snyder is an American Academy of Arts and Sciences Fellow, a member of the editorial board for American Political Science Review and International Security and has made significant contributions to academic fields such as international theory, international security, democratization and nationalism, American foreign policy, and Russian (Soviet Union) foreign policy. The Chinese version of his book Myths of Empire: Domestic Politics and International Ambition (Cornell 1991) was translated by CISS’s Prof. Yu Tiejun and recently published by Peking University Press.
