The 2008 US Presidential Election Symposium – CISS Research Series Part I

March 20, 2008“The 2008 US Presidential Election Symposium” was held jointly by The American Studies Center (ASC) and the Center for International & Strategic Studies at Peking University. Representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), Renmin University, PKU, and others attended the symposium. 



The discussions revolved around the following four major topics: 

2008: A new turning point for the US – inspirations from a historical perspective 

Globalization: External and Internal Challenges faced during the US Presidential Election

The Giant Melting Pot, the Large-scale Mosaic, the Basics of the US Value System: Constants and Variables, and the Outlook of the US and the World



The director of the ASC, Executive Deputy Director and CISS Professor Yuan Ming, presided over the discussions. Keynote speakers included CISS Director Professor Wang Jisi, CASS Honorary Academy Member Professor Zi Zhongyun, PKU School of International Studies Professor Tang Shiqi, and Associate Professor Zhu Wenli.
