On January 2nd, 2014, Dr. Hu Yifan, the Chief Economist and Director of Research Department of HAITONG International Holdings Limited, visited the Institute of International and Strategic Studies, Peking University, and spoke with our staff. The School of International Studies’ Dean, Prof. Wang Jisi, Ass. Deans Prof. Yuanming and Prof. Zhufeng, Assistant Dean and Ass. Prof. Yu Tiejun, Ass. Prof Gui Yongtao, Prof. Wang Yong, and Ass. Prof. Chen Shaofeng attended the event. Dr Hu’s incisive talk touched on various issues including the development of a new round of trade agreements and China’s response, the leverage role of finance in International Relations, the prospect of RMB becoming an international currency and the advantages and disadvantages of such an eventuality.

Following Dr. Hu Yifan’s talk, the participants discussed the appreciation of the RMB, the financial development and prospect of manufacture industry in China, the impact of TPP on China, as well as the Chinese government’s economic and financial policies. On behalf of the IISS, Dean Wang Jisi would like to thank Dr. Hu for her visit and lecture, and looks forward to working with Dr. Hu in the future.
