On December 29, 2017, the Institute of International and Strategic Studies (IISS), Peking University (PKU) held the 2017 Council Meeting and Symposium on International Situation. Dai Bingguo, Former State Councilor, PRC, and Honorary President of IISS, PKU, attended the meeting, gave a speech on international situation and provided some instructions on IISS’s further work.
The IISS council members present at the meeting included Cui Liru, Senior Advisor from China Institutes of Contemporary International Relations, Fu Chengyu, Former President of Sinopec, He Di, Chairman of the Board, UBS Securities, Jia Qingguo, President of the School of International Studies (SIS), PKU, Wang Yizhou, Vice President, SIS, PKU, Wu Zhipan, Former Executive Vice President, PKU, Yue Xiaoyong, Chinese Ambassador to Ireland, Zhou Mingwei, Former Director, China Foreign Languages Publishing Administration. Among the honored guests at the meeting were Li Zhigang, Counselor, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of PRC, Wang Zhouyi, Deputy Head of Office of Humanities and Social Sciences, PKU, Hu Yixiong, Party Secretary, SIS, PKU, etc.
The working meeting of the council was chaired by Yuan Ming, Vice President, IISS, PKU. Wang Jisi, President of IISS, PKU, gave a report on the performance of IISS in 2017 and its plans for 2018. The council members and guests gave full recognition to the work achieved by IISS in the past year, and provided suggestions on research directions, exchanges and cooperation and financial support for the next year.
The symposium on international situation was chaired by President Wang Jisi. Zhu Wenli, Contract Research Fellow, IISS, Guan Guihai, Executive Vice President, IISS, Yu Tiejun, Vice President, IISS, Gui Yongtao, Assistant President, IISS, Cui Kun, Wu Bingbing, Qian Xuemei and Lei Shaohua, Contract Research Fellows, presented their ideas on such issues as “America”, “Russia and Europe”, “Situation around China”, “Middle East, South Asia, anti-terrorism” respectively, and held discussions with participants.
