On the afternoon of October 28th, 2021, the Institute of International and Strategic Studies (IISS), Peking University (PKU) held an online symposium on "National Security and Competition-Cooperation Games in the Context of Scientific and Technological Changes" and the Fourth Beige Salon.

Experts and scholars from institutions such as the Academy of Military Sciences, the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Renmin University of China, Fudan University, China Foreign Affairs University, and the Advanced Technology Institute, PKU, the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences and the Department of Information Management at PKU were invited to have in-depth discussions at the symposium. Yu Tiejun, Vice President of IISS, PKU, attended the symposium and delivered a speech. Lei Shaohua, Special Research Fellow, and Sun Yilin, Deputy Secretary General, attended the symposium. This salon was presided over by Qi Haotian, Assistant Professor of School of International Studies, PKU.

The Beige Salon aimed at promoting profound dialogues between academic and policy research. From the perspective of the "construction of national security discipline", the participants exchanged ideas on topics such as the influence and action mechanism of scientific and technological changes on national security and international stability, the possible impact on the field of traditional security, the current trends in the fields of non-traditional security such as biology, digital, industry and network, as well as ideas and methods for the development of national security under the new circumstances. The participants believed that in the context of great uncertainty in scientific and technological changes and international relations, traditional and non-traditional security should be further integrated. Both academic and policy research should clarify the connotations and boundaries of security based on the overall national security concept, so as to effectively promote interdisciplinary and knowledge integration.
