    Most recently served as the National Security Advisor to the Prime Minister of India from January 21, 2010 to May 26, 2014. Before that Menon was Foreign Secretary of India from 2006 to 2009. He has served as Ambassador or High Commissioner to Israel, Sri Lanka, China and Pakistan. His professional experience was concentrated on India’s relations with China and the neighbors, atomic energy and disarmament, and India’s relations with the major powers. Menon has been a member of the Atomic Energy Commission since 2008. As a career diplomat, he served in China, Japan, and Austria in the Embassy and the Mission to the IAEA and UN. He was also seconded to the Department of Atomic Energy in the early eighties.
