Cui Tiankai was appointed Chinese Ambassdor to the U.S. from 2013 to 2021. He obtained a master’s degree in law from Johns Hopkins University in 1987. He was appointed Deputy Director-General of Information Department and Spokesperson of China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) in 1996, Minister Counselor of the Permanent Mission of China to the United Nations in 1997 and Deputy Director-General then Director-General of Policy Research Office of MFA from 1999 to 2003. He then was appointed Director-General of Department of Asian Affairs of MFA in 2003, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs in 2006 and Ambassdor to Japan in 2007. He served as Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs from 2009 to 2013.
