IISS at PKU Held its Tenth Anniversary Celebration and the 2023 International Situation Seminar

On October 27, 2023, the Institute of International and Strategic Studies (IISS), Peking University (PKU), held its Tenth Anniversary Celebration and the 2023 International Situation Seminar at the North Pavilion. The seminar featured the following guests: Chen Dongxiao, President of the Shanghai Institutes for International Studies (SIIS); Chen Xiaogong, former Deputy Director of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the CPC Central Committee, and former Deputy Commander and Lieutenant General of the PLA Air Force; Da Wei, Director of the Center for International Security and Strategy (CISS), Tsinghua University; Fu Xiao, Deputy Secretary-General of the China Foundation for International and Strategic Studies (CFISS); He Di, Director General of the Boyuan Foundation; Ni Feng, Director of the Institute of American Studies (IAS), CASS; Wang Wan, Research Fellow of the Institute of Modern History, CASS; Wang Jisi, Founding President of the IISS, PKU, and Professor at the School of International Studies (SIS), PKU; Wang Yizhou, Dean of the Institute of Area Studies, Nanjing University and Professor at the SIS, PKU; Xing Guangcheng, Member of the CASS and Director of the Institute of Chinese Borderland Studies, CASS; Xu Bu, former President of the China Institute of International Studies (CIIS); Yuan Ming, Honorary Dean of the Yenching Academy, PKU, and Professor at the SIS, PKU; Zhang Tuosheng, former Director of the CFISS Academic Council; Cui Liru, Member of the Expert Committee of the China Institutes of Contemporary International Relations (CICIR); Yang Jiemian, Director of the SIIS Academic Affairs Council; Huang Dizhong, Vice Chairman and Secretary-General of the China-United States Exchange Foundation (CUSEF); Lu Dele, Secretary of Mr. Dai Bingguo from the General Office of the State Council; Tang Shiqi, Dean and Professor of the SIS, PKU; Guan Guihai, Executive Vice President of IISS and Associate Professor at SIS, PKU; Gui Yongtao, Vice President of IISS, Associate Dean and Associate Professor at SIS, PKU; and Yu Tiejun, President of IISS and Professor at SIS, PKU.

Senior research fellows of IISS, PKU attending the meeting were as follows: Associate Prof. Jie Dalei from SIS, PKU, Associate Prof. Lei Shaohua from SIS, PKU, Associate Prof. Li Chen from the School of International Studies, Renmin University of China; Assistant Prof. Qi Haotian from SIS, PKU; Prof. Qian Xuemei from SIS, PKU; Prof. Zhai Kun from SIS, PKU; and Prof. Zhu Wenli from SIS, PKU.

The tenth anniversary celebration was chaired by Yuan Ming, Honorary Dean of the Yenching Academy, PKU and Professor at SIS, PKU. Prof. Tang Shiqi, Dean of SIS, PKU, delivered the opening remarks. Prof. Yu Tiejun, President of IISS, PKU, briefed the committee members and guests on the profile of IISS and its research and work achievements over the past decade, and reported on the work of IISS in 2023. The guests congratulated IISS on its tenth anniversary, fully affirmed its achievements, and made suggestions for its future research directions and development strategies.

The international situation seminar was chaired by President Yu Tiejun. Guan Guihai, and Gui Yongtao, Executive Vice Presidents of IISS, along with senior research fellows Zhu Wenli, Zhai Kun, Qian Xuemei, and Jie Dalei expressed their views on topics such as Russian domestic and foreign policy, security in Northeast Asia, the political and economic situation in the United States, the Belt and Road Initiative, the situation in Afghanistan, and the U.S. policy towards Taiwan. They also engaged in profound discussions with the participants.
