President Wang Jisi and His Escort Pay a Visit to Washington and New York, U.S.

On April 1-12, 2019, a group of scholars organized by the Institute of International and Strategic Studies (IISS), Peking University (PKU) paid a visit to Washington, D.C. and New York. Members of the group were: Prof. Wang Jisi, President of the IISS, Prof. Wu Xinbo, President of the Institute of International Studies at Fudan University, Prof. Xue Lan, Dean of Schwarzman Scholars at Tsinghua University, Yang Xiyu, Researcher of the China Institute of International Studies, Prof. Li Wei from the School of International Studies, Renmin University of China, Associate Prof. Guan Guihai, Executive Vice President of the IISS, Associate Prof. Gui Yongtao, Vice President of the IISS, Assistant Prof. Lei Shaohua, Special Research Fellow of the IISS, and Hu Ran, Director of the Chinese side of the "Asia-Pacific Community Initiative" Sino-U.S. cooperation project. On April 4, the group of scholars and the team of American experts invited by the Georgetown Initiative for U.S.-China Dialogue on Global Issues held a one-day workshop. On April 5, Wang Jisi, Wu Xinbo, and Xue Lan, partnered with Dennis Wilder, Managing Director for the Initiative for U.S.-China Dialogue on Global Issues, Assistant Professor of the Practice in Asian Studies in the Walsh School of Foreign Service, Georgetown University, and former senior director for East Asian affairs of National Security Council (NSC), and Evan Medeiros, Senior Fellow for the Initiative for U.S.-China Dialogue on Global Issues and inaugural Penner Family Chair in Asian Studies at the Walsh School of Foreign Service, Georgetown University and former senior director for East Asian affairs of NSC, to convene a public dialogue entitled "Uncharted Territory: Exploring the Future of U.S.-China Relations with China's America Hands". The dialogue attracted an audience of about 120 people.

On April 2-5, Wang Jisi and Hu Ran visited several institutions in Washington, D.C., including the U.S. Department of State, the NSC, the U.S.-China Business Council (USCBC), the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), the Brookings Institution, and the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace. On April 8-11, Wang Jisi and Hu Ran went to New York to call upon former U.S. Secretary of State Henry Kissinger and USCBC Chair Evan Greenberg and visit the National Committee on U.S.-China Relations, the Council on Foreign Relations, and the Asia Society.
