Currently Vice President of Institute for World Economy and International relations, Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS). From 1993 to 1996 he was Councilor, Head of Political Section at the Russian Embassy to Lithuania. From 1996 to 1999, Mikheev was Chief Research Fellow of the Institute for Far Eastern Studies, RAS. He became Deputy Director of the Institute for Far Eastern Studies, RAS from 1999 to 2005. And from 2003 to 2005, he was the Director of Asia Security Program in Carnegie Moscow Center. Since 1998, he has been APEC Studies Center coordinator for Russia. He has been the Director of China & Japan Studies Center, IMEMO RAS (Institute for World Economy and International relations) since 2005. Since 2006, he became a Member of Russian Council for Defense and Foreign Policy. He has been the Vice President of IMEMO RAS since 2009.
