The Seminar on “Northeast Asian Situation and China-South Korea Relations” Held in IISS, PKU

On November 4, 2016, the Institute of International and Strategic Studies (IISS) of Peking University (PKU), Sungkyun Institute of China Studies(SICS) in Sungkyunkwan University and the Korea Foundation (KF) co-organized the seminar on “Northeast Asian Situation and China-South Korea Relations”. On the morning of the day, Associate Professor GUAN Guihai, Executive Vice President of IISS, PKU, Associate Professor GUI Yongtao, Assistant President of IISS, PKU, and Sihyung Lee, President of KF exchanged views on cooperation between both sides.
In the afternoon, Korean experts including LEE Heeok, Director of SCRI, and young scholars from Chinese domestic Think Tanks and universities carried out a frank, open, in-depth exchanges on THAAD, the North Korean nuclear crisis, the situation on the Korean Peninsula and other issues of common concern between China and South Korea. The two sides also discussed the changes in the post-election US foreign policy, the future development of Japan's Abe cabinet and its impact on the situation of Northeast Asia. Both sides believe that China and South Korea need to resolve conflicts, seek consensus, and jointly promote the stability and prosperity of Northeast Asian region with more far-reaching strategic vision and a more positive sense of cooperation.
